For his sustained and distinguished service to the academic and professional activities of the management discipline.  Acting in a wide variety of roles, he has contributed to our field in many ways.  He has made contributions to both theory and empirical research, being equally proficient in either skill.  His efforts as founder of the International Leadership Symposia were primarily responsible for a renewed era of leadership debate and discussion.  He has been an effective editor, dedicated teacher, and loyal colleague.  His undaunted energy, enthusiasm and personal example will serve as an inspiring role model for those who follow.

Served as dissertation committee member for more than twenty-five dissertations, including outside member role for a dissertation at the University of British Columbia, the University of New Castle (Australia), the University of Western Ontario.  In addition, served as outside Chair at Oxford University Theology School, and the role of "Opponent" at the University of Tampere, Finland in December, 1989 and 1995.  In the "Opponent" role I conducted a four-hour public, oral, examination at the dissertation defense of two Finnish Ph.D. candidates in business administration.

Served as chair or committee member for nine master's theses.

            Academy of Finland, $30,000 plus a Finnish foundation grant to conduct nationwide Finnish Ph.D. seminars and to conduct joint research with Arja Ropo and other Finnish colleagues.  Provided added global presence for Texas Tech University, Summer 1994.
